Bridging Networks: An Overview of the Omnitronics Radio Gateway Architecture

The architecture of our integrated Omnitronics Radio Gateway system provides maritime centers with a robust bridge between traditional radio hardware and modern IP-based dispatch platforms. By converting analog radio frequencies into network-friendly data, this system layout guarantees clear communication pathways, seamless software-hardware integration, and the high-availability failovers required for mission-critical VTMIS environments.

With the Omnitronics Radio Gateway System, you can:

  • Interconnect diverse RF networks by routing portable, vehicle, and marine radios through base stations directly into the central gateway.
  • Streamline IP network distribution, delivering real-time voice and data from the gateway straight to mobile dispatcher clients and fixed dispatch consoles over standard TCP/IP.
  • Ensure uninterrupted high availability (HA) using a dual-server configuration where Omnicore Server 01 constantly replicates data to a standby server to protect against hardware failures.
  • Unify external integrated systems, sharing synchronized voice, positioning, and safety data across SIP PBX, VoIP recorders, GIS mapping tools, and Digital Selective Calling (DSC) modules.

The logic behind this architecture relies on clean data conversion and high-tier redundancy. First, field transmissions from the RF Network are captured by base stations and pushed directly into the Omnitronics Radio Gateway, which converts the radio traffic into IP data. This data is then securely ingested by the primary dispatch engine (Omnicore Server 01). To safeguard the entire console network against sudden downtime, an automated HA Sync line bridges the primary server with a dedicated standby server (Omnicore Server 02), maintaining 24/7 uptime. From this central core, the system distributes communication streams using standardized protocols—including SIP, VoIP, and data lines—to feed downstream systems like GIS mapping and DSC alerting platforms simultaneously.
